SUPERNOVA 1986K IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY
     P. Wild, Astronomical Institute, Berne, reports the discovery by
T. Schildknecht of a supernova at R.A. = 0h52m33s65, Decl. = -7deg36'17"2
(equinox 1950.0), 45" east and 3" south of the center of light of
an anonymous galaxy. The object, of mag 16.5, was detected on
Sept. 1.05 and confirmed on Sept. 3.00 UT.

1977 DV3 = PERIODIC COMET SKIFF-KOSAI (1976 XVI)
     E. Bowell, Lowell Observatory, reports the discovery by B. A.
Skiff of a comet in the course of the U.K.-Caltech Asteroid Survey
extension back to a plate taken by C. Kowal with the Palomar 1.2-m
Schmidt in 1977. The comet was noted by the undersigned as
identical with an object discovered by H. Kosai with the 1.0-m Kiso
Schmidt and for which positions were published by Kosai and K.
Hurukawa on MPC 5587 under the designation 1977 DV3. Kosai now
confirms the object's cometary nature and has found an image on
another Kiso exposure a month later. The comet is strongly
condensed but has some slight coma. It is of short period and is to
be designated 1976 XVI. The uncertainty in P is about one week.
