SUPERNOVA 1987B IN NGC 5850
     J. Menzies, South African Astronomical Observatory, telexes
that this object is of type II with strong H alpha and He I 587.6-nm
emission.

SUPERNOVA 1987A IN THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD
     J. Babel and A. D. Heynderyckx provide the following summary
of their seven-filter Geneva photometry at the European Southern
Observatory: Feb. 25.24 UT, V = 4.564, B-V [sic] = -0.737; U-B
[sic] = +0.518; 26.03, 4.517, -0.670, +0.677; 26.24, 4.509, -0.638,
+0.710; 27.01, 4.424, -0.494, +0.996; 27.24, 4.413, -0.470, +1.148;
28.01, 4.421, -0.314, +1.657; 28.09, 4.422, -0.299, +1.697.
     P. Whitelock, South African Astronomical Observatory, reports
the following infrared and provisional optical photometry on Feb.
26.8 UT by R. Catchpole and H. Winkler, respectively: J = 3.64, H
= 3.45, K = 3.22, L = 2.89; V = 4.44, B-V = +0.36, U -B = -0.31;
V-R = +0.33, V-I = +0.44.  J. Menzies notes that the spectrum had
changed markedly since Feb. 24.9 (cf. IAUC 4316): very broad H alpha
and beta (about 30 000 km/s wide) emission lines now made the spectrum
look much more like that of a type II supernova, although it still
seemed anomalous in some respects.
     R. M. Humphreys, T. J. Jones, K. Davidson, F. Ghigo and W.
Zumach, University of Minnesota, report preliminary colors for
Sanduleak -69 202 suggesting that it was slightly too red for a B3
I star.  They measured R = 11.94 +/- 0.18, I = 11.6 +/- 0.1 from the
ESO/SRC Survey SR and I transparencies using an automated scanner.

COMET SORRELLS (1986n)
     Further total visual magnitude estimates: Jan. 28.81 UT, 10.8
(S. Korth, Monheim, W. Germany, 0.36-m reflector); 30.46, 9.9 (J.
Kobayashi, Kumamoto, Japan, 0.31-m reflector); Feb. 1.17, 9.1
C. S. Morris, Lockwood Valley, CA, 0.26-m reflector).

OJ 287
     Visual magnitude estimates by R. Monella, Covo, Italy: Jan.
21.94 UT, 14.8; 24.96, 14.9; 31.99, 15.2.
