COMET YANAKA (1988r)
H. Kosai, Japanese National Astronomical Observatory, reports
the possible discovery of a comet by Tetsuo Yanaka. The following
observations are available:
1988 UT R.A. (1950) Decl. m1 Observer
Dec. 29.836 16 35.5 + 1 08 9-9.5 Yanaka
30.552 16 32.1 + 0 38 8.6 Levy
T. Yanaka (Motegi, Tochigi). 0.15-m binoculars, verified with 0.40-m
reflector (140 x). Object diffuse with condensation, coma diameter
about 3'. Probably moving to northwest [sic].
D. Levy (Tucson, AZ). 0.4-m reflector. Coma diameter 2', tail 7'
long in p.a. 290 deg. Motion suspected but not definite.
Observation in moonlight.

photometry obtained on Dec. 16.21 UT by G. Comte with the 2-m telescope at
Pic du Midi Observatory gave B = 16.80, R = 16.10, I = 15.84 (Cousins).
