     P. M. Kilmartin, Mt. John University Observatory, forwards
the report by F. M. Bateson that this SU UMa-type dwarf nova is
undergoing an unusually bright superoutburst, as indicated by the
following visual magnitude estimates:  July 12.35 UT, 8.5 (P.
Williams, Sydney, N.S.W.); 12.69, 8.4 (A. Pearce, Perth, W.
Australia); 15.25, 9.0 (A. Jones, Nelson, New Zealand); 15.71,
8.9 (O. Hull, Auckland, New Zealand); 16.15, 8.6 (M. D. Overbeek,
Edenvale, R.S.A.); 16.27, 8.9 (Hull).


V854 CENTAURI = NSV 6708
     W. A. Lawson, P. M. Kilmartin, and A. C. Gilmore, Mount John
University Observatory, report a decline of this R CrB-type star,
as indicated by the following photometry:  June 22.52 UT, V =
7.44, B-V = +0.63; June 27.39, 7.44, +0.65; July 14.53, 8.04,
+0.71; July 17.31, 8.18, +0.75.
     Visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 4729):  Jan. 25.75 UT,
8.0 (R. H. McNaught, Siding Spring Obs.); Feb. 11.57, 7.8 (P.
Williams, Heathcote, N.S.W.); 24.46, 8.3 (Williams); 27.79, 8.2
(McNaught); 28.46, 8.4 (Williams); Mar. 2.47, 8.4 (Williams);
7.80, 7.9 (McNaught); 8.47, 7.8 (Williams); June 11.91, 7.6 (A.
Pereira, Cabo da Roca, Portugal).


PERIODIC COMET BRORSEN-METCALF (1989o)
     U. Fink, A. Schultz, and M. DiSanti, University of Arizona,
report the following R (Kron-Cousins) magnitudes, obtained with
the 1.55-m reflector (+ CCD) at Mt. Bigelow on July 13.46 UT:
aperture 3".8, R = 17.1; 9".4, 15.7; 18".8, 14.8; 37".6, 13.9;
56".4, 13.4.  A pronounced ion tail was visible, as was a bright
nucleus with a well-developed coma.
     Total visual magnitude estimates using 20x80 binoculars:
July 14.44 UT, 8.1 (C. S. Morris, near Mt. Wilson, CA); 15.31,
8.2 (J. E. Bortle, Stormville, NY); 16.45, 8.2 (Morris, Pine
Mountain Club, CA).
