     R. H. McNaught, Siding Spring Observatory, reports the discovery
by Q. A. Parker of a fast-moving object on a plate taken by M. Hartley
with the 1.2-m U.K. Schmidt. The object was independently discovered
at Palomar by C. S. Shoemaker, E. M. Shoemaker, and D. Levy with the
0.46-m Schmidt on Nov. 3. The following precise positions have been
reported:

M. Hartley (Siding Spring). R plate. Measurer R. H. McNaught.
C. S. Shoemaker, E. M. Shoemaker, and D. Levy (Palomar). Asteroidal appearance.
A. C. Gilmore and P. M. Kilmartin (Mount John Observatory).
K. S. Russell (Siding Spring). J plates. Measurer
R. H. McNaught. Although the end of the exposure was affected by
clouds, the Nov. 4 image shows a distinct glow to the southeast,
separated from the trail by 0'.5 and about the same distance ahead in
the direction of motion; the glow extends radially away from the trail
for 1'.7. There is no evidence of this glow on the Nov. 5 tracked
exposure, which also terminated in clouds.

Orbital elements by B. G. Marsden, Center for Astrophysics,
