H. McNaught, University of Adelaide, reports his discovery of a supernova of mag 19 in the spiral arm of an anonymous galaxy near NGC 5813 on a pair of plates taken on 1980 Mar. 20.7 UT by J. A. Dawe with the U.K. Schmidt Telescope. The image of the supernova is about one magnitude brighter on the J plate, which was exposed 90 min before the R plate. The position is R.A. = 14h58m49s.14, Decl. = +1 57'23.9 (equinox 1950.0; accuracy 0".3 in each coordinate). Offsets from the nucleus are 9".7 east, 7".7 south. No image appears in this position on an I plate taken by K. S. Russell on 1990 June 29, and it is not present on the Palomar Sky Survey prints. In addition, M. A. Read has found no image of the supernova to mag about 21 on U.K. Schmidt plates taken on 1979 July 16 and 1983 May 11. SUPERNOVA 1990T IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY M. Phillips, Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory; and C. Gouiffes, European Southern Observatory, note that July 26 observations (cf. IAUC 5065) of this type Ia supernova (cf. IAUC 5061) indicate that it is approximately two weeks past maximum. They measure a radial velocity of -9010 km/s for the minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption, and this is consistent with such an age.
