H. McNaught, University of Adelaide, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova of mag about 19.5 located at R.A. = 22h40m05s.59, Decl. = +1 02'24".2 (equinox 1950.0), or 5".2 west and 2".6 north of the stellar nucleus of an anonymous galaxy, near the edge of the face-on disk. The supernova was found on a J plate taken by M. Hartley on Oct. 9.5 UT with the 1.2-m U.K. Schmidt Telescope of the Anglo-Australian Observatory. Confirmation was obtained by Q. A. Parker and H. Hartley on an R plate taken Oct. 11.5 with the same telescope. No star appears in this position on previous UKST J and R films. 1990 SS Additional observations from J. V.
