SUPERNOVAE 1987Q AND 1987R
Jean Mueller reports her discovery of two apparent supernovae
on photographs taken by herself on 1987 Nov. 30 with the 1.2-m
Oschin Telescope in the course of the second Palomar Sky Survey. SN
1987Q in UGC 3845 (R.A. = 7h23m.0, Decl. = +47 12', equinox 1950.0)
was at blue mag about 16 and located 15".5 west and 49" south of the
galaxy's nucleus, in a spiral arm. SN 1987R in MCG +07-16-001 (R.A.
= 7h21m.8, Decl. = +42 07') was at blue mag about 18.5 and located
9".4 west and 6".7 south of the galaxy's center. Neither SN 1987Q
nor SN 1987R is visible on original POSS prints, and N. Reid reports
that neither appears on a red plate taken 1987 Jan. 3 by G. Carlson
in the course of the second POSS.
