Discovered by C. Jacques, C. Colesanti, C. Barreto, E. Pimentel, I. Mussi, J. Ribeiro, M. Domingues, J. Amancio, L. Amaral, P. Holvorcem, T. Napoleao on behalf of the Brazilian Transient Search - BraTS - at SONEAR Observatory, Oliveira, Brazil in three frames with 10 seconds exposure using an astrograph 280mm f/2.2 + CCD unfiltered, with magnitude 13.8 under limiting mag = 16.7. Nothing is visible at this location on the previous frames (limiting mag = 17.0) taken on 2020 Jul 20.3305 UT.

A progenitor or host galaxy candidate is DES J062633.53-513128.8 (rmag. 21.7, imag. 22.3), which is 0.2" SE of the reported position of the transient (see also C. Jacques's comment at https://wis-tns.weizmann.ac.il/object/2020uti). Other designations for this candidate are GSC2.3 S4E7006600 (Bjmag. 21.6) and DENIS J062633.5-513128 (Imag. 13.77, Jmag. 13.8). Positive detections (Vmag. 13–14) at the transient's position can be seen in the ASAS-3 light curve between HJD 2451868.72406 and 2451878.74269 (2000 November 20–30) as well as between 2451888.71054 and 2451908.65606 (December 10–30): a previous brightening or comtamination by a nearby star? No brightenings were recorded by the ASAS-SN Sky Patrol (Shappee et al. 2014ApJ...788...48S and Kochanek et al. 2017PASP..129j4502K) between 2014 May 6 and 2020 September 30, the latest observation is Sept. 30.035 UT, gmag. fainter than 16.1; complete data at https://asas-sn.osu.edu/light_curves/47c06f96-9ed3-4643-b174-6b0d9e10b5c2 —— Patrick Schmeer (Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim, Germany)
