Discovered by Hideo Nishimura, Kakegawa, Shizuoka-ken, Japan, who found this star on two frames (limit mag.= 14.5) taken with Canon EOS 6D digital camera + 200-mm f/3.2 lens, who writes nothing is visible at the discovery position on three frames taken on 2020 February 23.785 UT by same instrument under the limiting mag.= 14.7. Nishimura writes a faint blue star (mag.= 20) at this location on Pan-STARS image.

The faint blue Pan-STARRS1 source is PSO J153052.655-040559.375, with position end figures 52.65s and 59.3" (gmag. 21.1, rmag. 21.0, imag. 21.1). Other designations are MLS_J153052.7-040558, USNO-B1.0 0859-0267534, GSC2.3 S84X005043 (Bjmag. 21.0), and GALEX J153052.8-040557 (fuv_mag. 21.5). The transient is confirmed by recent ASAS-SN Sky Patrol (Shappee et al. 2014ApJ...788...48S and Kochanek et al. 2017PASP..129j4502K) observations: 2020 February 24.011 UT, gmag. fainter than 17.0; 25.250, gmag. 13.46; 26.257, 13.34.
