PERIODIC COMET HONDA-MRKOS-PAJDUSAKOVA (1974f)
Dr. Elizabeth Roemer, University of Arizona, reports that this
comet has been recovered on 30-min exposures with the Steward
Observatory's 229-cm reflector on Kitt Peak, as shown below. L. M.
Vaughn assisted. In the poor seeing the comet appears as a small
spot, and on the first exposure it is superposed on a star trail.
The indicated correction to the ephemeris on IAUC 2697 is negligible.

NOVA PERSEI 1974
Dr. N. Sanduleak, Warner and Swasey Observatory, reports the
discovery of a nova on an objective-prism plate taken with the
Burrell Schmidt telescope, as follows:

     1974 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. mpg
     Nov. 9 3 04.2 +46 56 ~11.0

The spectrum shows that the nova is in the '4640 A stage', suggesting
that it is perhaps three magnitudes down from maximum.

U CEPHEI
Dr. E. C. Olson, University of Illinois Observatory, writes:
"Observations of primary eclipse with four-color photometry on Sept.
22 UT gave duration of totality equal to or greater than 70 min.
Totality lasted about 20 min longer in H-beta. Eclipse on Oct. 2 gave
totality duration about 47 min in V (from approximately 6h13m to
7h00m UT), although V brightened by 0.02 magnitude during this
interval. Minimum was well defined in H-beta and lasted about 55 min
(from approximately 5h48m to 7h44m UT). Totality on Oct. 17 lasted
about 110 min in V (from approximately 4h45m to 6h35m UT) and about
95 min in u (from approximately 4h59m to 6h32m UT). From the few
available H-beta observations, primary minimum was not apparent, and
irregular variations on the order of +/- 0.03 magnitude were present.
The beta-index during totality was about 0.07 magnitude larger than on
Oct. 2."
