J. E. Bortle (Brooks Observatory).  10 x 50 binoculars and 32-cm
   reflector.  Comet fairly well condensed, coma diameter 3'.0.
   Possible suggestion of a narrow tail near p.a. 270o.

     Other visual magnitude estimates: Oct. 8.35 UT, 8.1 (P. L.
Collins, Concord, Massachusetts, 20 x 120 apogee telescope); 8.46,
8.1 (P. Maley, Houston, Texas, 13-cm f/5 refractor).
