omega ORIONIS
     P. K. Barker, Astronomy Department, University of Western
Ontario, reports only minor variations in the optical spectrum of
omega Ori concurrent with the polarimetric and photometric changes
seen by Hayes and by Donahue et al. (IAUC 3777, 3779).
Intensifier-dissector-scanner observations show that H-alpha emission has
increased in strength from intensity 1.6 relative to the continuum
on 1982 Oct. 9 to intensity 1.75 on 1983 Mar. 13. On both dates
the profile had a weak central reversal with almost equal V and R
peaks separated by 200 km/s. H-beta shows a very slight emission
increase from 1980 Nov. 26. On 1983 Mar. 16 the line was almost
completely filled in by double-peaked emission with central
absorption intensity 0.9.

NOVA SERPENTIS 1983
     H. Kosai, Tokyo Astronomical Observatory, provides the
following improved position from a direct plate taken with the Kiso
Schmidt telescope on Mar. 11.8 UT, when the estimated magnitude
was B ~ 12.3: R.A. = 17h53m02s51, Decl. = -14deg00'52".0 (equinox
1950). His examination of the Palomar Sky Survey prints did not reveal
a candidate for the prenova.

Further visual magnitude estimates: Mar. 5.20 UT, 13.5 (K.
Locher, Grut, Switzerland); 11.17, 12.9 (Locher); 13.2, 12.5 (M.
Verdenet, Bourbon-Lancy, France).

SU URSAE MAJORIS
Verdenet provides the following additional visual magnitude
estimates (cf. IAUC 3778): Mar. 1.8 UT, 11.2; 2.8, 10.8; 3.8,
11.0; 6.8, 12.4; 7.8, 12.4; 8.8, 12.9; 9.8, 13.7; 10.8, 13.7.

PERIODIC COMET CHURYUMOV-GERASIMENKO (1982f)
Total visual magnitude estimates: Feb. 15.84 UT, 11.7 (J.-C.
Merlin, Le Creusot, France, 0.26-m reflector); 19.96, 12.4
(Merlin); Mar. 3.04, 12.3 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY, 0.32-m
reflector); 6.15, 12.5 (Bortle); 16.14, 12.6 (Bortle).

1983 March 31 (3788) Brian G. Marsden
