COMET RUSSELL (1984d)
K. S. Russell, U.K. Schmidt Telescope Unit, reports his
discovery of another comet on a Mar. 7 exposure by M. Hawkins. He
was also able to locate the object on prism plates obtained some
days earlier, but the derived positions must be of somewhat lower
accuracy. The comet has a noticeable tail, perhaps 5' long.

Although the orbit is currently rather indeterminate, it
seems likely that it is of short period. The following parabolic
and representative elliptical elements are by the undersigned.
The ephemeris is from the ellipse.

PERIODIC COMET HARTLEY-IRAS (1983v)
S. Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, reports that
observations comparable to those for P/Crommelin (cf. IAUC 3921)
showed emissions of OH, NH, CN, C3 and C2.
Further total visual magnitude estimates: Feb. 29.55 UT, 8.5
(C. S. Morris, Angeles Crest Highway--not Los Angeles Crest
Highway, as was given on IAUC 3920--CA, 20 x 80 binoculars); Mar.
1.40, 8.8 (D. W. E. Green, Harvard College Observatory, 0.23-m
refractor); 2.42, 8.7 (J. Bortle, Stormville, NY, 20 x 80
binoculars); 3.40, 8.7 (Green); 8.41, 9.3 (Bortle).
