SUPERNOVA 1987A IN THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD
     M. Feast, South African Astronomical Observatory, telexes:
"UBVRIJHKL photometry at the SAAO, Sutherland, by H. Winkler, G.
van Vuuren, F. Marang, R. Catchpole, D. Laney, P. Whitelock, and G.
Roberts, on all but 3 nights during Feb. 24.8-Mar. 24.7 UT (JHKL
from Feb. 25.8) shows that B declined from mag 4.74 to a shallow
minimum at 5.70 around Mar. 15 and has since been rising (B = 5.60
on Mar. 24.7). V rose with minor fluctuations during the same 23-
day period from mag 4.63 to 4.02. U fell from mag 3.94 to 7.80 and
may be going through a shallow minimum. K rose from mag 3.46 to
1.83, with K-L near +0.30 throughout."
     M. Malkan and W.-H. Sun, University of California at Los
Angeles, report: "We obtained 10-micron photometry of SN 1987A with
the bolometer at the Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory 4-m
telescope: Mar. 17.07 UT, N = 1.45 +/- 0.07; Mar. 19.96, 1.31 +/- 0.05.
The increase in brightness at 10 microns is consistent with the overall
reddening behavior of this object."
Corrigenda: Among the visual magnitude estimates on IAUC
4327-4350, for T. Beresford read A. Beresford.

PERIODIC COMET HALLEY (1982i)
     A. Cochran and E. Barker, University of Texas, write: "We have
obtained observations of P/Halley with the IDS spectrograph on the
2.7-m telescope at McDonald Observatory on Jan. 30 and Feb. 2; the
comet was about a magnitude brighter on Feb. 2 (coma diameter 30") than
on Jan. 30 (diameter 15"). The spectra were obtained with a 4" x
4" aperture centered on the center of brightness. On Jan. 30, CN
was marginally detected (log column density = 9.30), while on Feb.
2, CN was unequivocably detected (log column density = 9.45). Also
on Feb. 2, C3 was weakly detected (log column density = 9.63)."
Total visual magnitude estimates (cf. IAUC 4314): Feb. 22.86
UT, 13.6 (R. Fleet, Harare, Zimbabwe, 0.52-m reflector); 23.41,
12.4 (A. Hale, Las Cruces, NM, 0.20-m reflector); 27.81, 13.7
(Fleet); Mar. 1.86, 13.6 (Fleet); 3.36, 12.1 (Hale); 7.41, 12.4
(Hale); 18.18, 12.8 (C. S. Morris, Lockwood Valley, CA, 0.26-m
reflector); 20.21, 12.7 (Hale); 22.16, 13.4 (D. H. Levy, Tucson, AZ,
0.4-m reflector).
