CATALOGUE OF COMETARY ORBITS 1992
As noted on MPC 19347, a new edition--the seventh--of the
'Catalogue of Cometary Orbits' is now available. The 100 pages (not 99,
as stated there) contain orbital elements for 1353 cometary apparitions
through Dec. 1991. All the elements have been converted to the J2000.0
system, but the arrangement is otherwise essentially as in the previous
edition. The price of the Catalogue is $20.00, although subscribers to
these Circulars can purchase it for $10.00 and have their accounts
debited by this amount. The main part of the catalogue and the table of
'original' and 'future' 1/a values for the 276 long-period comets with
orbits of the highest quality are also now available e-mail, for a price
of $50.00. Unlike the two previous editions, the seventh edition is not
available on magnetic tape or on an MS-DOS diskette. If a reasonable
number of subscribers express an interest in having a diskette edition,
efforts will be made to produce one, but it is unlikely to be available
for several months.
     Z. Sekanina, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has pointed out that some
of the nongravitational parameters given on pages 74-75 of the Catalogue
are in error: for P/Harrington, A2 for 1953-1980 should be +0.0170, not
-0.0170; for P/Comas Sola, A1 for 1935-1953 should be +0.58, not +0.55;
and for P/Tuttle, A2 for 1939-1980 should be +0.0128, not +0.1028.
