SUPERNOVA 1998dg IN MCG -3-34-008
     B. Schmidt, Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatories,
reports that spectrophotometry (range 380-750 nm) obtained with the
Australian National University's 2.3-m telescope at Siding Spring
Observatory on Aug. 13.5 UT shows SN 1998dg (cf. IAUC 6978) to be a
type-Ia supernova, about 2 weeks past maximum light. A redshift
was unavailable for the galaxy, but comparison of the supernova
spectrum with other type-Ia supernovae suggests that SN 1998dg is
at z about 0.01.

SUPERNOVA 1998dh IN NGC 7541
     O. Kuhn, F. Prada, and R. Costero, Instituto de Astronomia,
Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, report the following
near-infrared photometric magnitudes obtained on July 28.461 UT
with the 2.1-m telescope (+ CAMILA instrument) at the Observatorio
Astronomico Nacional at San Pedro Martir:  J =14.43 +/- 0.05, H =
14.35 +/- 0.05.
     CCD V magnitudes from D. Hanzl, Brno, Czech Republic, using a
0.40-m reflector (GSC comparison stars):  Aug. 5.933 UT, 14.0;
8.993, 14.0; 9.959, 13.95.
