JUPITER XIII
     Dr. M. Schmidt, Hale Observatories, reports a further precise
position, obtained by C. T. Kowal with the 122-cm Schmidt telescope
at Palomar and precise measurements of two earlier plates:

     1974 UT             R. A. (1950) Decl.         mpv
     Oct. 17.23472    22 37 17.72   - 9 53 44.8
          18.24236    22 37 07.73   - 9 54 04.9
     Dec. 12.16458    22 48 18.21   - 8 29 41.2    20.5

     Dr. K. Aksnes, Center for Astrophysics, Harvard and Smithsonian
Observatories, informs us that a refinement of the orbit yields
Incl. = 26o.7, e = 0.146, a = 0.0743 AU, P = 240 days.

CYGNUS X-3
     With reference to the recent outbursts (cf. IAUC 2734, 2737),
Dr. N. Kawajiri, Radio Research Laboratories, Kashima Branch, reports
that at 4.2 GHz the flux density had decreased below 1 Jy on
1974 Dec. 21.2 UT; a further rise, reaching 3.1 Jy, occurred
between Dec. 23.0 and 24.3; and there was a broader maximum, at 2.0
Jy, on Dec. 26.3. Observations were then interrupted for two weeks,
after which there was a maximum of 6.0 Jy on 1975 Jan. 14.2; there
was then a steady decline, except for a stand-still near 3 Jy on
Jan. 17-18, and by Jan. 20-23 the flux density was less than 1 Jy.

NOVA PERSEI 1974
     Mr. J. Isles, Director of the Variable Star Section of the
British Astronomical Association, communicates the following
prediscovery observations, the magnitudes being approximately
photovisual: 1974 Sept. 17.95 UT, 10.0: (D. Jones); 19.93, 9.4 (Jones);
20.88, 9.4 (M. Besley); 27.90, 8.8 (Jones); 28.91, 9.0 (Jones); Oct.
12.91, 9.9: (Jones); 12.94, 10.1 (M. Jaques); 20.91, 9.9: (Jones).
The reductions were by G. Hurst and S. Anderson.

COMET WEST
     Dr. Richard M. West [the middle initial was given incorrectly
on IAUC 2741], European Southern Observatory Sky Atlas Laboratory,
writes that it is uncertain whether the daily motion is dR.A. = +1m.18,
dDecl. = -1'.4 or dR.A. = -1m.18, dDecl. = +1'.4.

1975 January 31                (2742)              Brian G. Marsden
