POSSIBLE SUPERNOVA IN NGC 4298
     V. P. Dzhapiashvili, Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, and
D. Ya. Martynov, Sternberg Astronomical Institute, report that
Natsvlichvili discovered a possible supernova of photographic
magnitude 15.0 on Dec. 8 located 10" east and 10" north of the nucleus
of NGC 4298 (R.A. = 12h19m.0, Decl. = +14o53', equinox 1950.0).

X PERSEI
     W. Liller, Center for Astrophysics, Harvard and Smithsonian
Observatories, reports that he monitored X Per photoelectrically
for approximately one hour on both Nov. 11 and 12 using a narrow-band
interference filter (full width at peak transmission 15.7 A)
centered on He II 4686 A. When the data from both nights are folded
modulo 13.924 min (cf. IAUC 2854, 2869), they show a double sine
curve with a full amplitude of 0.89 +/- 0.10 percent and with a maximum
occurring on Nov. 11d08h18m02s +/- 32s UT. This periodic variation
is seen equally well on the two nights although the equivalent
width of the He II line, which normally appears in absorption in X
Per, is somewhat greater on the first niqht than on the second.

COMET SUZUKI-SAIGUSA-MORI (1975k)
     J. Hers, Randburg, sends the following precise positions:

     1975 UT R. A. (1950) Decl.
     Nov. 29.83333 22 00 24.10 -51 28 14.9
     Dec. 2.78403 22 04 29.53 -51 12 54.8
           7.77500 22 10 42.65 -50 50 05.6

Selected total visual magnitude estimates: Nov. 11.40 UT, 7.5
(A. F. Jones, Nelson, New Zealand, 4.5-cm refractor); 12.42, 7.8
(Jones); 21.44, 8.8 (L. Boethin, Bangued, The Philippines, 20-cm
reflector); 22.45, 8.8 (Boethin); 29.46, 11: (V. L. Matchett,
Indooroopilly, Queensland, 30-cm reflector); 30.42, 11: (Matchett).

OBSERVATIONS OF COMETS
Corrigendum. On IAUC 2681, the observations of comets 1971
VI, 1972 II and 1973f (= 1973 XII) were made at Cerro El Roble, not
at Cerro Calan.

1975 December 19 (2888) Brian G. Marsden
