NOVA MUSCAE 1983
      K. Beuermann, Technical University of Berlin; J. Krautter,
Max-Planck-Institut, Garching; and J. van Paradijs, University of
Amsterdam, report that this object has been observed at the
European Southern Observatory as follows. Infrared photometry with
the 1-m telescope gave: Jan 21.3 UT, J = 6.3, H = 6.2, K = 5.7, L
= 4.7; Jan. 23.3, J = 6.5, H = 6.4, K = 5.9, L = 4.7. Walraven
photometry with the Dutch 0.9-m reflector gave: Jan. 21.3 UT, V =
8.34; 22.3, 8.70. An image-dissector-scanner spectrum (range
400-480 nm, dispersion 39 A/mm) obtained with the 3.6-m reflector
on Jan. 22.37 UT shows the presence of strong Balmer emission
lines that consist of several components and indicate expansion
velocities of 370 and 1000 km/s: in addition, there is P-Cyg-type
absorption at -1650 km/s, and emission lines of Fe II, Ti II and
the 464-nm feature are also present. Image-tube spectra (range
360-520 nm) taken by L. Kohoutek with the 1.5-m reflector on Jan.
21.3 and 23.3 UT show the same multiple-line structure for H& and
P-Cyg-type absorption for HI and higher Balmer lines: the 330
km/s expansion is also visible in Fe II lines. The prenova
appears on an SRC-J Schmidt plate as an object of mag ~ 19-20.

Further visual magnitude estimates by W. Liller, Vina del
Mar, Chile: Jan. 23.16 UT, 8.3; 25.14, 8.3.

RS TELESCOPII
     F. M. Bateson, R.A.S. of New Zealand, notes that this R CrB
variable had faded to mv = 12.4 on Jan. 20.68 UT.

PERIODIC COMET CHURYUMOV-GERASIMENKO (1982f)
Further total visual magnitude estimates: Jan. 1.14 UT, 10.5
C. E. Spratt, Victoria, BC, 0.20-m reflector); 5.04, 10.0 (C. S.
Morris, Harvard, MA, 0.25-m reflector); 12.20, 10.3 (Morris);
15.16, 10.6 (Spratt, 0.32-m reflector); 22.17, 10.2 (Morris).

CORRIGENDA
IAUC 3756, HD 208311: An Unusual New Be Star. On line 3 from
foot, for H-alpha emission read H-alpha absorption.
IAUC 3758, 1982 XB. The UT time of the second observation by A.
   Young should read Dec. 17.87847.
